Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis (also known as “trich”) is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by a protozoan parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global prevalence of trichomoniasis was estimated to be 110.4 million in 2016 (or 0.6% in men and 5.3% in women aged 15-49), and the estimated global incidence was 156 million new cases (or 42 per 1000 men and 40 per 1000 women). (REF 1. Trichomoniasis: clinical manifestations, diagnosis and management. Swygard et al, 2003) Approximately 70-80% of men and 50% of women infected with trichomoniasis remain asymptomatic but infectious.
