
Transmission of Genital Ulcer
- Chickenpox can be transmitted by direct contact with the rash/blisters, or through air droplets from an infected person.
- Shingles can be transmitted by direct contact with the open sores/lesions.
- LGV is transmitted sexually by direct contact with the infected ulcers/lesions.
- Chancroid is transmitted sexually by contact with the discharge from open ulcers/lesions or pus from the inflamed lymph nodes.
Prevention
Varicella (chickenpox) can be prevented by vaccination (Varivax). Zoster (shingles) can be prevented by vaccination (Shingrix and Zostavax). LGV can be prevented by correct and persistent use of condom during sexual activity. Chancroid can be prevented by correct and persistent use of condom during sexual activity.
